Web reading is a kind of digital reading in this article which takes audio, video, image, text as the forms and computers, tablet PC, mobile phones, electronic reader, players, MP3, MP4, PSP, etc as the carriers. Web reading is an integral part of the vast majority of students’life. Therefore, it is a good opportunity to improve history reading which was not popular in the past. Referring to the psychological characteristics of students, we can guide students to roam happily in history by taking full use of different forms of internet. The door of history may open to the students because of internet. Although Web reading gives students a wealth of knowledge and wide vision, it also has a number of implications. We can solve the problems through building up proper ethics, laws and regulations of the community, government, schools and families. We should try to make Web reading a ladder of leaping development of students.This paper is made up of five parts. First, the origins, significance, present situation, study methods and the definition of web reading are presented in the first part. Second, the necessity and feasibility of web history reading are talked in this part. Web reading is necessary because the new history curriculum needs it. Reading and history reading affect greatly. It is a trend of social development and the demands of the times. Shenzhen has tremendous possibility to popularize web reading. It is popular among the students in Shenzhen. Internet contents include a large number of historical resources which are free and have high quality. Especially the opening of Shenzhen mobile library gives more icing on the cake. Third, I make a survey in Shenzhen Sungang Middle School to investigate the present situation of web reading. Fourth, the major problems of extracurricular web reading are analyzed in this paper. Finally, possible solutions are presented. The social responsibilities of media are recommended. Our country should strengthen legislation enforcement and develop green networking platform and extracurricular resources. we should develop good softwares to keep students healthy in mind. we should also guide students to improve media literacy of the students both at school and at home.
