Cultivating students’ geospatial literacy is an important task of era and society to middle school geography course, and it also should be an important and core objective of our middle school geography course. Besides, relevant theory and practice has proved that strengthening the student’s ability of geospatial literacy both to help students learning geography and strengthening students’ social practice ability have important significance. In this study, the author’s main purpose is to develop geospatial literacy of middle school students, firstly, the author read and analyzes the basis of literature to find the deficiency existing in the current related research, Secondly, the author analyzes the status quo and existing problems of current cultivating geospatial literacy by applying test questionnaire, interview and classroom observing of research methods, etc, thirdly, the author puts forward applying the GIS technology the advanced technical to cultivating middle school students’ geospatial literacy according to the related problems, and try to explore relevant general-specific strategies of cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students basing on the GIS technology.In this paper, the main body includes six parts. The first part is introduction, mainly introducing the research background, research significance, research status at home and abroad, research methods and routes, and analyzing the relevant theoretical basis in this study. The second part is the introduction to the theory of geospatial literacy for middle school students, mainly defining the relevant concepts of geospatial literacy, analyzing the geospatial literacy component of middle school students needing to master, and explaining the important meanings of strengthening cultivating students geospatial literacy. The third part is present situation investigation and analysis, selecting three middle schools in wuhan city as examples, analyzing the current situation and the related problems of cultivating geospatial literacy in middle school through investigation and test form. The fourth part is exploring general-specific strategies of cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students basing on the GIS technology, and this is the main body and core part of this paper. Firstly, the author analyzes advantages of cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students basing on the GIS technology, on the whole, the author concludes the powerful map function of GIS technology,3D visualization and virtual reality technology and data analysis functions in cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students’ advantage has a bigger superiority. Next, the author concludes the basic principle of cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students basing on the GIS technology according to the characteristics of the GIS technology and the basic requirements of cultivating students’ geospatial literacy. Finally, the author emphatically discusses related general-specific strategies of cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students basing on the GIS technology. The author mainly discusses related general-specific strategies from the four angles of the GIS technology helping understanding the earth’s space shape, GIS spatial analysis functions of geographical phenomenon helping distribution, spatial and temporal variation features of GIS technology helping reproducing the geographical phenomenon of history, the future process and basing on the students’ autonomous learning application of GIS technology. The fifth part is the practical study, in the whole, the author designed the related practical cases of cultivating geospatial literacy of middle school students basing on the GIS technology, and carries on the analysis and evaluation. The sixth part is conclusion part, and the author summarizes the basic conclusions of this paper, the research of the deficiencies and research prospect.
