The rapid development of information technology promote that more and more people at home and abroad learn through the network. People can generate a lot of data in the process of E-learning. Then how to analyze these data effectively to promote learning has become a popular research topic among education researchers. The birth of learning analytics provides a solution to solve this problem.The technique analyzes network learning data by different analytical methods.This study takes a course that be opened on Moodle platform for example. Large amounts of data that be produced by students in the process of E-learning are tried to be get. The methods of qualitative and quantitative are used in the article to analyze different types of data. We hope the feedback of analysis can promote student learning. Research methods include documentary analysis, case study analysis and social network analysis method. Research contents are as follows:(1)The research introduces the knowledge and current situation of learning analytics at home and aborad.(2)The content has the overall design of the studies, including the research process, the platform introduction, the learner analysis and instructional design. The learning content, process, evaluation and teaching process are described.(3)The research collects data in the platform and uses different analysis methods to analyze the students’ learning process. Firstly, social network analysis tool UCINET is used to analyze mutual visits between students and teachers. Student and teacher exchange matrix and interactive community maps are constructed, and the center of the users are analyzed. Secondly, four areas datas are got when the course is carried out for six weeks. These datas are student access behavior, learning progress, interactive behavior in the forum, assignment and chat room performance. Social network analysis tool NodeXL is used to construct interactive network diagrams among students.And the various metrics of graphical are analyzed. Finally, at the end of the course, the same methods and tools are used on the above four aspects again. This provide data source for analysis and comparison of the text.(4)The research analyzes the effect of the application of learning analytics. This contains three aspects. Firstly, the effect in teaching is analyzed. Secondly, the early and late data are analyzed. Finally, the students’ attitudes are known through questionnaires. In general, the application of learning analytics in teaching facilitates learning in a certain extent.
