The21st century is a "big science" era, in which scientific development and social issues both demonstrate distinctive complexity and comprehensiveness. Although the current disciplines integration and interdisciplinary development become a trend, but the problem caused by discipline barriers in China’s higher education and universities development is still realistic, and can be classified as rather ticklish old problem. To solve the problem, there is no lack of good judgment in academia, but they mostly were confined only to the problem itself, limited to the way of "curing headache when the head aches, the foot ache and cure the foot". The effect is often temporary cure. Trying to stop water from boiling by stirring it without removing the fire underneath the pot is no longer efficient; we need a fundamental solution. Discipline Barriers conception was put forth and become China’s higher education’s Goldbach conjecture just like "Qian Xuesen’s question", the root lies in the top-level design of Chinese higher education issues, namely the weakness of "Static Higher Education". How can outstanding innovative talents be cultivated by "trial and error" method?"Knowledge is not power, wisdom is power." Differing from previous studies, this research will focus on the top of Chinese higher education, based on Qian Xuesen’s "great wisdom" and a new theory "Dynamic Higher Education", committed in constructing a "Great smart" structure of academic disciplines on complexity science paradigm and the foundation of modern science and technology system, to avoid the weakness of "Static Higher Education" from the root, to get rid of disciplinary barriers, to promote traditional universities’ transformation.This paper is divided into five parts, addition to the introduction and the conclusion:The first chapter explores the origin and present situation of the problem. First of all,"discipline","interdisciplinary","discipline barriers" and other terms are defined, followed by traceability analysis and division of the problem from the historical dimension. Finally, investigation of the present situation is displayed.The second chapter profoundly analyzes the causes of the discipline barriers problem. It mainly based on the basic characteristics of "Static Higher Education".The third chapter explains the possibility to solve the problem, through discussion on rationality and inevitability of the interdisciplinary development from logic and history dimensions.The fourth chapter introduces "great wisdom" and "new theory" to solve the problem, referring to Qian Xuesen’s "great wisdom", proposed a new theory to eradicate the problem, namely,"Dynamic Higher Education."The fifth chapter discusses the practical path to solve the problem. This section mainly propose constructing "Great Smart" discipline structure is the new path to break university disciplinary barriers from a practical point of view guided by the above new theory, and illustrates Xi’an Jiaotong University’s "Qian Xuesen experimental class" as the case which demonstrates practicality and effectiveness of the new theory.
