In traditional closed-ended teaching, all the problems are solved in class and students are learning passively all the time. However, in open-ended mathematics classes, the heart is problems, which is in favor of the development of students’subjective initiative and cultivation of students’creative personality and thoughts. Within the classroom teaching of junior high mathematics under the background of New Curriculum, open-ended problem teaching helps to make classes lively and vivid, which is a necessary and efficient approach to enhance the effectiveness and the efficiency. Based on the basic characteristics of the open-ended problem teaching, this thesis focuses on the following:(1) make a breakthrough at negative thinking set;(2) develop students’ creative consciousness and practical ability;(3) illustrate how to carry on the open-ended problem teaching activities through analysis of classroom teaching cases. In Chapter One, the author firstly analyzes some disadvantages of current teaching methods, puts forward the problem, research the current situation of open-ended problems at home and abroad, and then propose the significance, methodology and innovation of this thesis. In Chapter Two, the author defines open-ended problems, introduces the related classification, characteristics and principles for design, and analyzes the open-ended problem teaching and its assessment system. Chapter Three mainly discusses how to make a breakthrough at the negative thinking set in the open-ended problem teaching, including (1) the introduction of the common thinking set types of junior high students during the process of mathematics learning, and significance of this breakthrough, and (2) the introduction of the efficient methods to break through various negative thinking sets. Chapter Four probes into the cultivation of students’creative consciousness and practical ability in terms of open-ended problem teaching. In this chapter, the author gives illustration of the significance of the cultivation of students’creative consciousness and practical ability, explores the methods and does research on the modes and strategies of mathematics open-ended teaching. In Chapter Five, the author analyzes a open-ended problem teaching case and prompts teaching suggestions for the efficiency of the open-ended teaching through the questionnaire and research on the teaching case. In Chapter Six, several teaching suggestions of open-ended problem teaching are proposed based on the research on its theories and practice, and disadvantages of this thesis are stated as well, which is expected to be researched in the future.
