In the present job market for college students in China, there is a structural contradiction.On the one hand, it is difficult for college students to find a job, on the other hand, the skilled workers are in short supply. In order to cultivating the technical skilled talents, the ministry of education intend to promote the structural reform of higher education in China, and prompt around half of local colleges to applied technology and vocational education types in our country.According to the current situation of higher education in our country which is operated around the majors in practice, the thesis analyses two link for the students’ professional learning and employment choice,and try to find the policy recommendations for operating applied technology colleges from these problems in the two link.On the basis of literature reviews and understanding the research status, the thesis chose Chengdu Technological University as the research sample which is a typical local college of technological application.In the section of employment choice, the thesis analyze the employment data in nearly three years of Chengdu Technological University in detail, the results showed that:(1) the employment rate of the school is very high, the graduate employment rates remain around95%in the last three years;(2) the proportion of graduates who signed a contract to the enterprise, especially small and medium-sized enterprises is very high, nearly more than three quarters;(3) the relevancy between contract-signed companies and professional close degree of graduates is high, the average professional coincidence rates of three major by statistical reached nearly93%.In the section of professional study, the thesis chose some students from three majors in Chengdu Technological University as the research object, using the self-made questionnaire (scale) to carry on the major satisfaction investigation in four dimensions, including the integration level of hobby and majors, their own learning ability on majors, the professional learning and training offered by the school, the prospect of their majors.Statistical analysis results showed that the four dimensions of major satisfaction survey can be used to detect the teaching quality of school and students’ learning situation; Although the four dimensions of major satisfaction from students is not low, but the unsatisfied condition are significantly; the students consider the situation as a negative information on major satisfaction that the graduates signing with small and medium-sized enterprises abundantly.After contrast the results of analyzing on the employment data and the results of professional satisfaction survey, based on the survey data in the other literature, this thesis puts forward three policy suggestions on "how to operating applied technology colleges":(1) try to strengthen education on professional values (work value), guiding the student to work in the small and medium-sized enterprise;(2)attach importance to the professional satisfaction survey, monitoring the teaching quality and students’ learning situation;(3) take measures on letting students to learn professional technical skills which are fit for their own situations.
