In recent years, with the continuous development of higher education,the increase enrollment of public colleges and universities and introduction the public institutions of foreign schools, private colleges and universities are facing more drastic competition. More and more private colleges have to improve the quality of teaching to enhance their competitiveness. Teachers are the key to improving the quality of teaching in schools.The problem that teachers’working enthusiasm is low seriously restricts the sustainable development of private schools. People will respond to incentives to solve the problem of teachers work enthusiasm of private schools, schools need to provide adequate incentives for private teachers.Firstly, using the method of literature, this article sorts out the government policy on the development of private colleges and universities and teachers’ motivation. It finds that whether in the spirit of encouraging teachers or material incentive, the policy of the government lacks specificity and feasibility, it is hard to ensure that teachers will work with enthusiasm.Secondly, taking Y College as the research object, this article studies the basic situation and the incentive status of the school teachers.Using the method of questionnaire and interviews of teachers, school incentive related measures were investigated. It finds out that private college teachers incentive problems. First, the government policy didn’t give enough guidance and support; second, the incentive strength is insufficient; third, the incentive measures lacks pertinence; fourth, the incentive measures’ executive force are poor. In view of the above problems, this study use the experience of expectancy theory and equity theory, internal origin from three aspects of government, schools and teachers of private college teachers incentive problem. And that the main causes of the above problems are five:first, the government policy on private colleges and college teachers in the implementation is not in place; second the government regulatory mechanism regarding private colleges teacher incentive is missing; third school management teachers incentive consciousness can’t put into practice; fourth is that the private colleges’ excessive pursuit of economic interests caused incentive funding shortage; fifth is teachers hold working attitude, their sense of school belonging is not strong.Finally, based on the above analysis, this article puts forward some suggestions to solve the incentive problem. Specific recommendations include the following three aspects. Government should implement the existing incentive policies on private college teachers,continue to formulate and improve relevant policies of teacher incentive and strengthen the supervision of private colleges and universities.Besides, school manager should strengthen the consciousness of motivating private college teachers, increase the input to the motivation of teachers resources and improve the campus environment. For the teachers, they need to change the concept, approve and actively incorporate in private education, enhance the level of occupation quality of their own, strengthen the independent management.
