For-profit higher education in the United States has a long history, but has been usedto supplement the traditional higher education, in the edge position in higher education. Inthe20th century, as the rise of new liberalism and new managerialism and the influence ofglobalization and new technology revolution, for-profit colleges and universities haveachieved unprecedented development. Many countries have established for-profituniversities and colleges and in some countries even legally affirm the for-profituniversities and colleges as an important part of higher education. Even so, the educationquality of for-profit Higher Education Institution has been criticized by people. In thisbackground, the author selects to study the quality assurance system of for-profit universityin the United States. In order to make research more targeted, the author has done a casestudy of University of Phoenix which is the representative of for-profit university.Before formally introducing the quality guarantee system of the University of Phoenixin this paper, the author introduces the current situation of University of Phoenix throughits graduates’ satisfaction, management, reputation and talent.By compared with non-profituniversities in accreditation standards, information literacy, learning, academicperformance and progress, the affordability and return on investment to illustrate theachievements of the University of Phoenix. The quality assurance system makes greatcontribution to the success of University of Phoenix. According to different main body, thequality guarantee system can be divided into external quality assurance system and internalquality assurance system. The external quality assurance system can be divided intoaccreditation, recognition and licensure by different body. The external quality assurancebody of the University of Phoenix is mainly made up of the North-central Region of theCouncil for Higher Education‘s reginal accreditation and Accreditation Council forBusiness Schools and Programs’ programmatic accreditation, the United States Departmentof Education’s and Council for Higher Education Accreditation’s recognition as well as Board for Private Post-Secondary Education’s licensure. The internal quality assurancesystem of the University of Phoenix includes courses and major settings, recruitment,learning and teaching quality control, process control, employment guidance, employmentof practitioner. Finally private colleges in our country draw lessons from the successfulexperience of University of Phoenix.
