With the development and expansion of graduate education in the United States, the number of graduate students is in a rising trend. And the number of female graduate students continued to rise, even outnumbering the male. Their employment are related to improving the social status of women, their market economy orientation, whether the labor market for high-end resources can be fully utilized, and to achieving social justice. The measures of women graduate training and their employment provides a significance for other countries.This paper selects the original data related to employment statistics of female graduate, which come from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and other authorities. Through sorting out the data on the U.S. women graduate training and employment rates, employment and salary distribution finishing, then combining American social background and relevant government agencies policies on women’s equal access to education, employment and equal pay, we analyze the status of American women graduate employment and problems, and hope to provide reference for our country.The thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter was introduction, which contained the background and significance of topics, literature summary, research method and innovation and deficiency of the paper. The second chapter introduced the U.S. graduate education, the classification of America graduate education and the number trends of graduate students from1966to2010and pointed put the problems of America postgraduate training. The third chapter analyzed the data of American female graduate students, and the progress of women’s graduate education, then further analyzed the changes in the number of female graduate, including the proportion of science and engineering disciplines, as well as professional distribution at the graduate level. The fourth chapter combed and analyzed female graduate employment data, including statistics of employment rate, and employment distribution. At the same time, we discussed the U.S. unemployed female graduate students and give the reasons. In addition, we also compared the female graduate students’ income with male, then found the differences in this section. The fifth chapter discussed the factors that affected American women graduate training and employment. The reasons were self-consciousness of women, the support of female organization and national policies and so on. In the last chapter, we gave some reasonable suggestion to help Chinese female graduate students education and the advices to solve employment problems.
