Parent-child relationship is the main relationship between modern nuclear familymembers.Parent-child relationship is harmonious or not, which affects not only the stabilityof a family, but also the relationship status in the field of the society as a whole.With thedevelopment of the society, social factors of different periods such as economic andcultural figures each generation with unique characteristic of its own, and the replacementand differences between each generation also make the parent-child relationship of afamily constantly present new characteristics and problems in different periods. Owing toincreasing levels of globalization in recent years, studying abroad becomes a fashion, moreand more young people choose to go abroad for further study. Young people’s dream tostudy abroad cannot realize easily without their parents’ support, so when we are focusedon the overseas students community, we should not ignore their parents and even the entirefamily at the same time. On the one hand, overseas students are independent individuals,who has independent thinking and judgement and faces different education methods fromparental education.On the other hand, they are the filial generation attracted much attentionin the family and cannot live without the support in economic and emotional from parentalgeneration. The behavior of studying abroad objectively brings some change to theinteraction and exchange between two generations, and whether the changes will affect theparent-child relationships is a question worth thinking about.This paper choose unmarried students studying abroad families’ parent-childrelationship as the topic, on the basis of combing previous studies about parent-childrelationship, through interviews and questionnaires, to learn about the current status ofsingle students abroad and their families, and find the parent-child relationship changes ofthe community from several aspects including parent-child communication, mutualunderstanding and subjective evaluation of parent-child relationship. The author found thatalthough studying abroad objectively changed the original interactions and exchangescontent between original, but the changes in form didn’t affect their relationshipfundamentally, on the contrary most respondents believe that studying abroad promotes the parent-child relationship to be better. However, under this harmonious appearance thereexists some features of the community’s the parent-child relationship which can betransformed to be some issues of family generation. Then the paper analyses affectingfactors of parent-child relationship from education difference between generations,cultural feedback in intergenerational interaction, traditional concept of intergenerationrelationship and the concept of individual independence, according to social exchangetheory. And all these act on intergenerational interaction in a family which in turn affectsthe parent-child relationship. Furthermore, the change from tradition to modern brought byglobalization is the fundamental factor.At the end of the paper, the author also extend the parent-child relationship of singlestudents’ family studying abroad to more families in the society and think about provisionfor the aged, socialization of children and a series of social problems which might bring.
