Zhang Jian Nantong Rational Social Autonomy Model Of Thinking

With the great efforts of Zhang Jian and other Gentry-Merchants, Nantong has rapidly became one of the developed cities in China through the establishment of industry, education and social public utilities in the late19th and early20th century. Zhang Jian can be attached to lots of labels like Number One Scholar, businessman, philanthropist, social transformation and so on as a special era figures. Therefore, Zhang’s special identity and unique social transformation of Nantong aroused the attention of scholars and researchers.Zhang Jian as the core of the Gentry-Merchant class, relying on strong economic strength, capital base, has became another social forces outside the government in Nantong. They get involved in the private sector and taken the public affairs under their management. This way of social transformation is unique and it creates to the achievement and glory of Nantong. This paper combines era background, with the unique perspective of "state-society" relationship. I take Zhang’s social activities as a social autonomous mode, and put it as the main line. In additional,I hope this paper can carry out theoretical reflection on the model itself in order to provide reference to contemporary social management mode.
