| Since the late of 1980s, the civil society theory accompanied with the community autonomy practice in the rural area and urban grass root level has attracted a lot of interests in domestic academic field. I think both of them correlated mutually. The background under which community autonomy appeared, basic principles, autonomy main body and autonomy intention are identical with the construction of civil society in a great scale. Community autonomy will be propitious to the growth of civil society in China, so the practice of community autonomy can be viewed as a trial actual platform. As basic unit, community has essential contents of society: politics, economy, culture etc. People may know society by studying community, we can further promote the growth of civil society through investigating and solving the trouble of community autonomy.I chose a suburban village: Jinguang Community in the city of Suzhou which is being an urban community under the modernization background as an investigation object. I surveyed autonomic association, pubic participation, mutual contact in order to learn autonomy status, and found countryside lost its quondam puny autonomic characters ulteriorly and was absorbed into city system. I draw a conclusion: the centralized mode in which the government leads modernization results that the social right is been violated by the state power; both the new collective ownership that encircled community corporation and its reformation influence negatively community autonomy; little social capital in our traditional culture has fade away. So the politician should reform current social system and correlative policies. The correlation between the government and the society should be rebuilt, and the community autonomy has been practiced in the mode of "powerful state, powerful society". The nomocracy is practiced really and the state is been restricted by the law; Multicultural construction should be strengthened; all kinds of consortium should be fostered.
