Previous investigation into the causes of network game addiction mainly focuses on the characteristics of the gaming, social environmental factors and individuals’physiology, mentality, personality, cognitive processing and so on. But recent researches rarely involve in network game addicts’ self-cognitions. By means of self-reference effect paradigm and Implicit Attitude Test, this study uses empirical methods from explicit and implicit aspects to discuss the characteristics of network game addicts’self-cognitions.The study includes two experiments. The first one investigates into the characteristics of network game addicts and non addicts’self-cognitions from the explicit aspect. By using the Implicit Attitude Test, the second one further probes into whether there exist same characteristics of self-cognitions in network game addicts from the implicit aspect.Through the two experiments, the following main conclusions can be drawn: (1) The network game addicts have been self-reference effect. In the process of the information of the self, there is recognition advantage.(2) The network game addicts have more negative actual self awareness.(3) The game addicts’self contains less realistic self than the non-addicts.
