Study Of Strategy To Improve The Comprehensive Quality Of Outstanding Innovative Talenets In Southwest Jiaotong University

Southwest Jiaotong University initiated a national project in the field of education reformation named as "Reformation of talent training style in the field of rail transit" in2009. Training of the top-notch innovative professionals is one of key parts of the project. This thesis is mainly concentrating on the strategy to improve the comprehensive quality of the top-notch innovative professionals.The thesis started with an introduction about the related principle of top-notch innovative professional training, as well as the progress in both domestic and abroad. Most projects are based on undergraduate training, including the "top-notch project" initiated by the Ministry of Education in2009. Subsequently we pointed out the importance of training higher-level (Ph.D. students) innovative professionals.Next we discussed the training plan of Southwest Jiaotong University and its implementation in details, including the corresponding policies and supporting prerequisites, selection procedure, working out of personalized training plan, cooperation among the university, school, advisor and students, as well as the connection with followed projects. Subsequently we emphasized on the principle and path to improve the comprehensive quality, including the principle of treating students as the center, the establishment of ability goal matrix and ability accomplish matrix under different fields, as well as the actions to improve the international horizon and ability of innovation.Analyses of the achievements of the project and the evaluation of related policies indicate that the project had made significant progress during the last four years, and showed good examples for the whole graduate education system. It also improved the university’s influence in the international academic and industrial arena. The project has accumulated good experiences and enhanced the performance of the whole faculty class. Meanwhile, there are still certain actions that can be taken to enhance the overall progress, such as delicate management, better enrollment quality, varied and personalized training system or style, as well as scientific evaluation procedures.The last part of the thesis proposed the optimization of the project under a more generalized concept of top-notch innovative professional, including establishing advisory groups, promoting cross-disciplinary research, as well as making students carry research in a more motivated way. Finally we discussed the possibility of extending related experiences into the whole graduate education system.
