Class teaching is the most important part of teaching work in school. Class teaching is a process that teachers apply some teaching methods to teach students knowledge and skills. Teacher discourse in class is used as a tool to convey thoughts, feelings and communicate information, knowledge. And the effect of class teaching is good or not, whether we have achieved the goal, it largely depends on the harmonious interaction between teachers and students. This paper mainly elaborates how to apply the Halliday’s theory of interpersonal function to construct a good relationship between teachers and students, finally realizes the effective classroom teaching by analyzing English teachers’ classroom discourse.At present, the development of the research on teacher’s classroom discourse is relatively slow, and largely confined to the study of college English teachers’ classroom discourse, there is no so much for the research on English class of middle school. The interpersonal function is one of Halliday’s systemic functional grammar. Based on the interpersonal function theory, the author give Class3and Class4Grade9in the3rd year junior middle school in Xi County as an example, and recording the class as the corpus, the paper summarizes corpus, analyzing the characteristics of the teacher’s classroom discourse. Before and after the experiment a questionnaire survey was conducted among190students of two classes, through the investigation and analysis, it shows that the teachers can adjust classroom discourse to improve the relationship between teachers and students, enhance the emotional connection between teachers and students. Because teacher’s classroom discourse still exist problems, thus giving some corresponding suggestions, to help teachers improve their own quality, to show good relationship between teachers and students, to create a harmonious and friendly atmosphere of teaching in English teaching class.
