Contents of this paper is related to the history of primary education in England from the mid-16th century to the mid-20th century, including the development and reform of the primary education system in modern Britain. Try to combine the unique combination historical and cultural background of modern society of Britain, and discuss its influence to the primary education. According to the characteristics of the primary education, the main article is divided into the following parts:The first chapter is an introduction. The main topics include the origin, the purpose and the value of the paper, as well as summarize and analyze the previous relating studies.The second chapter is from1550to1780. Introduces and discusses the contents of the period in primary schools, teachers and more influential educational ideas. The period of British primary education religious and philanthropic very prominent, primary education development is very slow.The third chapter starts from the Industrial Revolution to the year1870, when the1870Education Act was published. This is a changing era:the government began to intervene the elementary education. Primary education got more attention than ever before. The monitorial system solved the problem of the scarcity of teachers under the industrialized background, and the system of normal education of elementary teacher set up in the1840s.The fifth chapter covers the period from1871to1945. People gradually form the idea that the government should be responsible to the elementary education, and elementary education had been further discussed.In this paper, the main research methods are documentary method and historical method. Research will be conducted through looking up and analyzes both English literature and Chinese literature.
