| The new curriculum reform has been implemented in Sichuan Province since September2010. But the process is still in its infancy up to now. Rural areal plays an important role in the reform because our country is a big agricultural country and a large proportion of the population lives in rural areal. Teachers are the main force of the new curriculum reform as well as the implementer and facilitator. However, the new curriculum is a "challenge" for mathematics teacher in rural high schools. Textbook is the carrier of teaching content and a teacher’s tools and credentials to teach. And it is also an important part of students’learning. The success of curriculum reform depends on teachers’use and adaptability to the textbooks. Therefore, it is necessary to study teachers’adaptability to new materials in rural high school. This study is of a real case about a math teacher, Mr.A, who is teaching in a high school in Gaoping District, Nanchong City. This study is aimed at exploring the teacher’s adaptability to the new textbooks by collecting data, observing classroom, interviewing students and other methods. The study also will analyze the causes of problems in the process of the adaptability to the new material, and give recommendations.Compared to the previous textbooks, the new ones are of more "affinity ","problem solving ","thought "," applicability "and "times". This study is on Mr.A’s adaptability to the writing theories, layout structures, teaching objectives, teaching periods, teaching content, teaching method requests and after-school exercise of the new textbooks. Mr.A was found to agree with the new writing theories and have changed his role and methods in the process of using the new textbooks. But the traditional teaching model is still the mainstream and it increases the teaching and psychological burden. The study analyzes the factors that affect teachers’adaptability to the new textbooks from different aspects including administrative departments of education, teachers, teaching, schools and parents. Administrative departments of education should strengthen the promotion of the new curriculum reform further, organize an effective teacher training, and increase the support for rural schools. For teachers, they need to change their roles faster in teaching process. The lack of professionalism and ability to use modern educational technology is a main problem as well as the tendencies persist of professional individualism. Teacher also should strengthen their psychological diathesis. As for the textbook, mere is the problem of "City Center Orientation" and the irrelevance of content between junior and senior high school. As for School, there are issues about the limited teaching resources, inadequate teaching facilities, and unscientific evaluation system and so on.The study gives recommendations for these problems to the administrative departments of education, teachers and schools. The administrative departments should improve the teachers’training system so that teachers can receive actively training about the teaching of the new curriculum. It is also necessary to establish a combination of short and long term training system, strengthen the construction of trainers’specialized training, and focus on practicality and relevance of training content. The new high school mathematics textbooks should be further improved by paying more attention to the problems which are raised by first-line teachers and correct the mistakes. The reform of the existing evaluation system for students and teachers should be as soon as possible. The government also needs to promote the reform of college entrance examination. School should create opportunities to strengthen the cooperation and exchanges between teachers. Teachers should use teaching materials creatively and do teaching reconsidering to improve their own accomplishment. |
