Yang Chang-ji(1871-1920) is a very famous educator and ethicist in modern China. He was extensive in learning and belly with poetry and literature. His thoughts were well-versed in both China and West. Meanwhile, his thoughts had rich connotation. He was profound in many areas of humanism. Especially the moral education. His moral thoughts were based on the philosophy, ethics and education. On one hand, he inherited the thoughts of Li Xue in Song and Ming dynasty, on the other hand, he compromised the evolutionism, Utilitarianism and ethics of Kant. He developed his own Characteristic moral educational system. It was unique in transition period of moral education in the Republic of China. As the teacher and father-in-law of president Mao, he had impressed influence because of his noble virtue and gritty on Mao. Yang Chang-ji cultivated many national pillars with the spirit of strong-willed and ambitious, such as Mao Ze-dong, Cai He-sen,Chen Chang and so on. Some of them devoted to the Chinese revolution, some of them devoted to the academic areas. Moved by Yang Chang-ji’s spirit, his students established the Xin-Min academic group which was very famous patriotism in May Fourth Movement. The talented people which influented by him have great devotetion to the revolution and education in modern China.Based on the historical data, this paper first introduces Yang Changji’s life, analyzes its moral education thoughts form the era background, personal background and the influence of culture on the thoughts of Chinese and western. The second summarizes Yang Changji system of moral education thought. In the final analysis the influence of his education thought, evaluate the contribution to the history of his moral education thought.The paper has eight parts:introduction, six chapters and conclusion:Introduction mainly introduces the reasons of this research, the meaning of the research, the related researches, the possibilities of the research, the thinking of the research and the methods the research used.The first part introduces the life of Yang Chang-ji, analyses the background of his thoughts. It includes historical background, personal background and cultural background.The secondary part introduces the aims of moral education of Yang Chang-ji. The goal of the moral education in the schools was to cultivate citizen, the personal goal was to be the talented person. These two aims were related to each other, and to be part of each other.The third part is based on the first and secondary part. It introduces the content of Yang Chang-ji’s moral education. It contains education in patriotism, ethical and moral education of family and personal moral education.The forth part introduces the moral methods, related goals which talk about in methods and personal moral methods. The moral education in the schools contain command and prohibition, rewards and punishment, game and homework, talk and display. The personal moral methods contain ambitions and thinking small, self-thinking and easy-doing, deepen-learn and practice.The fifth part is based on what the paper says before and introduces the methods of moral education in the school. It is self—cultivation and some other related subjects.The sixth part concludes the Yang Chang-ji’s moral education ideas. For students, the key point is in patriotism thought, aimed at saint hero culture view, learning and exercise method the influence of the three aspects of cultivate one’s morality.The conclusion introduces the thoughts of Yang Chang-ji’s moral education, and give suggestions to the moral education nowadays.
