An Analysis On English Movie Course Teaching In Senior High School

Authentic language environment is necessary and advantageous for English learners who rarely have the opportunity to expose themselves to English environment. English movie course has the advantage of providing native-like speaking and authentic English environment. Besides that, abundant culture contained in movies stimulates English learners’ interest to learn English and the culture. Students could either learn English with the culture as the medium of carrier, or learn culture with English as the medium. What is more, such course creates a relaxed circumstance for study, which increases students’ motivation to learn English. All of these are significant for English study.From the theoretical respect, English film has been testified both abroad and at home that is feasible to be applied in English curriculum for teaching and learning. In addition, English movie course has been developed practically as an independent form of teaching and learning English. New Orientation these kinds of English training school have been setting up English movie courses to teach English for many years, and received great popularity of numerous English learners. However, the main objective in such courses is confined in the scale of merely linguistic elements learning, which imposes restrictions on making a full use of English movie’s other plentiful resources and exploiting the advantages of English movie course to the full. These might be regarded as the failure of the development of English movie course. They fail to apply English movie into an integrated and well-organized curriculum. Hence, the focus of this dissertation is to develop a type of English movie course with teaching methods, scientific way of selecting materials, the systematic approaches of designing tasks and activities, etc.
