With the rapid development of the Internet and mobile intelligent Terminal, moreand more countries set up open online courses under their national conditions, whichmake it possible that people can share educational resources in the Internet. In Europeand United States, ideology and concept of open-online courses is much earlier andbetter than ours. In comparision with open online general chemistry courses in theUnited States, we can find the differences exist between American and China, and wecan take advantage of American-style open online courses, add more online generalchemistry courses, which is giving some advices about the development of ourcountry’s open online courses.The concepts of open online courses have been a trend in the global, so we selectopen courses resources of "General Chemistry" in sharing platform (icourses) ofChinese university, and "Chemistry: Concept Development and Application” inCoursera educational platform to compare. Based on the idea of comparativeeducation, we use various search methods to study, such as literature, compare, caseanalysis, content analysis. we compare the courses in both sides of this, inmacroscopic aspect and microscopic aspect. In macroscopic-areas, we makecomparisons in three major aspects: curriculum teaching, classroom form, curriculumresources; in microscopic-areas, we select "atomic structure" section which bothcourses have for comparison in detail from specific aspects of curriculum knowledge,so that their advantages and differences is clear. Based on above research, someguides about the construction of open online general chemistry course will be given inChina。The concept of open online course is based on learner-focus idea. According to features of network, open online courses provide online curriculum resource that issimilar to real course for learners, and improve learner’s efficiency. In comparisonwith two kinds of open online courses, we hope that it is useful to give us some ideason construction of open online courses in our country.
