The humanistic care and psychological counseling in ideological and political education for college students have been identified as the new concerns in the current society with significant research and practical value.The Eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China emphasized heavily the importance to undertake the ethnical construction for citizens during developing the socialist cultural great state. The session of congress also recognized that the ideological and political education should focus on the "humanistic care and psychological counseling, cultivation of dignity and confidence, and contribution to the formation of rational, peaceful and positive social mentality". This principle pointed out the direction of this research. The colleges and universities in China should be dedicated to strengthening and reforming their approaches of ideological and political education for students. The Marxist approach of linking theory with practice as well as the humanistic care and psychological counseling should be adopted to fulfill the reform. To further strengthen and reform the ideological and political education in the new stage of history and to inject new momentum into the innovation on education, it is of vital importance to investigate the approaches, research the innovation of the ideological and political education patterns, and focus on pragmatism.This research structurally has five parts. The first part was about the connotation and contents of the humanistic care and psychological counseling of the ideological and political education. It is important to differentiate the humanistic care and the one of ideological and political education, and to distinguish the psychological counseling and the one of the education. The second part was about the necessity to undertake humanistic care and psychological counseling during the ideological and political education. It is important to analyze the status quo of political education from both subjective and objective perspectives and to point out the problems appearing in the educational approaches and suffered by students. The reason leading to the problems would also be put under investigation. In the context of the multi-value system, the ideological and political education intensively demands the strengthening of humanistic care and psychological counseling while giving first priority to the interest of students through every aspect of education. The third part was indeed about the approach to undertake humanistic care and psychological counseling. In this part, the research would come up with certain approaches about how to practice these two important concepts during the ideological and political education. Based on the existing problems and their reasons, this research intended to explore the new pattern of ideological and political education that is dominate by humanistic care and psychological counseling through improving students’understanding on these two concepts. The fourth part was about the real effect of the humanistic care and psychological counseling. In this part, some positive visions will be come up with, in order to formulate the harmonious society, inherit the traditional Chinese culture, and construct the stable humanitarian and psychological environment. The final part of this research was devoted to the discussion on the meaning, social effects, and visions of the psychological counseling and humanistic care during the ideological and political education.
