The rapid development of science and technology in today’s world, and international competition become fiercer, facing the challenges of economic globalization, countries are badly in need more talents with innovative thought and practical ability. The key of training talents depends on education. In order to follow the development of the times, we launched the8th reform in basic education since found of new China in recent years. The new curriculum reform is by adjusting the personnel training objectives, transforming model of personnel training, in order to improve the quality of education, training new talents and respond to global challenges.Geography teaching is an essential part of secondary education. As other disciplines, the reform of geography relate the success or failure of the whole education reform. For a long time, teachers take the book, examination and themselves as the core in teaching process, the thought of subject standard is seriously. Most of teachers lack of research on the laws of the students develop in the mind, using rarely visual and intuitive physicals、maps、pictures and so on. At the same time, in the basic education stage, it is that the tendency of classroom knowledge out of touch with real life exists universally. Therefore, the "study useful geographical feature for life" has become the core of the new curriculum reform.Due to the maps of class represented by the image data play an important role in the discipline, it is also called "the second language" of geography. It is also an important way to learning geography with images and a outstanding features compared with other disciplines. Most of traditional image use paper as platform, with the development of science and technology, the carrier of the image shows the tendency of diversification, electronic maps and network maps are burgeoning. Maps are language as well as writing,and the language is almost world-wide.The surface object is complex, text describe has its limitation, image compared with the text narrative more exactly, intuitively and comparative. Not only that users will find links and patterns by images of the things in different geographical regions were compared, showing similarities and differences between different regions. It is very important that learn image knowledge and the ability of using image, it is almost all can be shown on the image which the knowledge of involved in school geography curriculum. One of most important basis for testing of the student’s geography knowledge levels are image knowledge and ability to use the images.<<Geography Curriculum Standard for compulsory education in2011>> enacted by the end of December2011,it also emphasized "study useful geographical feature for life" and "train the geography attainment as a modern citizen".Based on the above, the paper focus on the geography image teaching under the new curriculum reform background, through literature review and questionnaire, data analysis methods to identify the shortcomings of image in middle and high school geography teaching at present. There are three aspects:First, the images setting in the teaching material is not perfect, some images are debatable, some images are not given, need to purchase additional teaching materials in teaching process, it increased the burden on teachers and students.Second, teachers using single teaching method and lack of change in teaching process, the subject status of students has not been achieved, teacher-centered at the classroom teaching in most of time, students usually as passive receivers, teachers also play the traditional role of pedagogue. While most of teachers are not exclusive to update their teaching methods, they are willing to accepted new teaching methods, but pressured by results and enter a higher school, there are few teachers dare to try, as a result of lead to update teaching methods only exists in demonstration classes, model classes, teaching reform become a mere formality and in surface;Third, many students’learning way are not scientific, they interest in subjects determined by the attitude toward their teachers in most cases, they have no real interest in subject knowledge. Although most of teachers pay more attention to training students’interpret blueprints ability, but students lock of subjective initiative, the teaching effect is bad, it dampened the enthusiasm of teachers’work, and not very successful in teaching activities.Because teachers often play a leading role in teaching activities, this paper mainly from the perspective of teachers’ view how to update the map of teaching mode, I think that the application of the image data should be more scientific and reasonable, you could attempt to implement cooperative teaching method, discovery teaching method, case teaching method, exploring teaching method to stimulate students’ interest, encourage students to think positively, develop the students’ innovative thinking and practical skills, in order to improve teaching current situation and improve the quality of geography teaching, promote the development of geography teaching under the new situation。...
