Examination system, as a subsystem of education system, has a very important significance and position. Most of the countries in the world regard examination as an important means of social regulation, and examination is widely used in each field of the society, profoundly affect the personal life and the development of society in various fields. Many countries and regions have invested a lot of manpower and material resources to study the reform of examination system, they make many beneficial attempts to promote the development of the examination system. Many countries and regions learn from others’successful experience to promote the development of their reforms. The College Entrance Examination plays an important role in all kinds of exams in each country and region. The College Entrance Examination is the important joint of educational system, and is the important link between basic education and higher education. It involves different interests, not only including the interests of the individual, middle schools and colleges, but also involving the politics, economy and culture of the nation.Mainland China and Taiwan are of the same clan and origin, and share similar spoken and written languages, cultural tradition, religious belief, etc. And there are some differences of political system, economical system, cultural system and other fields. So, there are the same and differences between the educational system in Mainland China and Taiwan. The reform of the examination in Taiwan keep in step with the trend of the world’s development, and many of them have advanced and scientific nature. The new scheme of The Multiple College Entrance Examination System implemented since2002, has made a breakthrough in many important steps in the process of testing, and constantly be improved to perfect. In Mainland China, The College Entrance Examination and its reforms have a very wide influence in many fields, and always be highly focused by the whole society every time. Although The College Entrance Examination has been reformed for many times with some progress, there are still many outstanding problems. Comparing the current situation of the College Entrance Examination Systems in Mainland China and Taiwan is helpful for us to use the experience of Taiwan for reference on future reforms.Based on the application of the research methods such as comparison method, literature method is chosen to be studied, through comparing the current situation of the College Entrance Examination Systems in Mainland China and Taiwan, in order to find out some reasons for the similarities and differences. And on this basis the thesis tries to analyze the results of comparisons, summarize the problems of the current College Entrance Examination Systems. Then, through using the experience of Taiwan for reference, this thesis attempts to make a few tentative suggestions as to how to promote the reform of the College Entrance Examination Systems in Mainland China.The thesis consists of four parts:Part One is about introduction, including research background, research significance, research purpose, research methods, research review and related concepts about College Entrance Examination System. Part Two is an overview of the development process of The College Entrance Examination Systems in Mainland China and Taiwan. Part Three is about comparative studies, including comparisons of examination authorities, examination contents, examination methods, qualification requirements, enrollment methods and reform trends between Mainland China and Taiwan. Part Four is about reflection and research references. Through reflecting the results of comparisons, this thesis tries to propose the basic directions for the College Entrance Examination Systems in Mainland China combined with reform experience from Taiwan.
