Story comprehension is an action that to understand the information in the story book. The story understanding ability is the basis for the development of children’s reading ability, it also has a positive promoting role in children’s language development, social cognition, etc. While without a word is the main characteristic of wordless picture book, it simply tells story by the pictures. Therefore, the question that how to understand the story by looking at the picture for this particular type of picture books for the children needs to be discussed by quantitative research.In this study Tobbi T120eye tracker was used. There are1203-6years old children as participants in a kindergarten form Tianjin.Using experimental method to investigate the eye movement characteristics and story comprehension of3-6years old children when they are reading wordless picture book, which reveal the story comprehension characteristics of the wordless picture book for3-6years old children. The present study discusses three aspects of the problem mainly, investigated story comprehension characteristics of the wordless picture book through the story structure and story content, and through the eye movement experiment to explore children’s eye movement characteristics for story elements of the wordless picture book. Then through the correlation analysis reveals the relationship between story comprehension and story elements for the wordless picture book.The results showed that:(a)3-6years old children’s story comprehension level for wordless picture book is gradually developing along with the age growth. Show that children’ story structure comprehension ability for the wordless picture book is growing and their story content comprehension ability is more in-depth.(b)3-6years old children’attention level to the important story elements and relationships between elements gradually increased along with the development of the age. Among them, the picture areas of images are the key areas when children focus on the wordless picture book, and the comprehension extent for the story background, theme, plot, and ending elements gradually strengthened. (c)3-6years old children’ story comprehension related with the eye movement index of story elements for the wordless picture book. Show that there is a significant correlation between the growing for children’story structure, content and the total comprehension score with that increased attention for the total picture area and the picture areas of images; there is a significant correlation between the growing to the comprehension for the specific story elements and the growing to the degree of attention for the corresponding story elements.Based on the above findings, the study put forward the following recommendations:(a) Guiding children to improve the story comprehension ability for the wordless picture books according to the constituent elements of the story structure and content.(b) Pay attention to the development of preschool children’s ability of reading pictures, especially for the comprehension to the picture areas of images of the wordless picture books.(c) Ensuring adequate reading time for children to understand the wordless picture books, and encouraging children to read repeatedly so that they can improve the quality of the story comprehension.
