AR picture book is a new type of picture book that combines AR technology with traditional paper picture book.It combines the characteristics of paper picture book and text, and at the same time uses AR technology to create AR effects, combining vision, hearing, touch and other feelings and forms a multi-sensory reading experience. The differences between AR picture books and paper picture books are in the reading process, and what the children will gain after reading the two types of picture books are the issues that parents and educators are very concerned about. In this study,56 large class children with no AR picture book reading experience were randomly selected as subjects. The children were divided into two groups to read paper picture books and AR picture books, respectively,by observing the interactive participation in reading and testing and evaluating the reading experience.Story understanding, storytelling, and reading form preferences to compare the reading effects of the two types of picture books. The results show:1.There is no significant difference in the interaction and participation behaviors of the two groups of children. Both the paper picture book and the AR picture book can actively participate in reading.Further exploration shows that children reading paper picture books will be more concentrated during reading, and children reading AR picture books will have more cognitive behavioral performance during reading.2.The reading comprehension scores and storytelling scores of the two groups of children are significantly different.Children in the AR picture book group can better understand the character's feelings and dialogue.Children in the AR picture book group pay more attention to the details of the story, and can better retell the background and plot of the story.3.Both groups of children prefer AR picture books,of which children who choose AR picture books are more likely to choose AR picture books than AR picture books. Finally, this study makes recommendations to preschool teachers, toddler parents, and AR picture book publishers based on the findings.I will reflect on the deficiencies in this research and propose a research outlook, hoping that it will be helpful for future related research.
