Research On Sport Politicization In The20^thCentury

The Twentieth Century was of huge importance of development of both human being and sport. It was worldwide wars and cold war as well as good or bad national relations that had influenced on the development of sport. We can still memorize those events such as boycott (the Olympic) and murdering during Munich Olympic, which were not only about sport or politics, but also promoted the formation of sport politicization.This paper adopts literature research, historical analysis and logistic analysis to relocate the relations between sport and politics and the performance of sport in the development of international relations in twentieth century. The author also believes that cases studies and historical evidence would help on proving both theoretical and empirical means of sport. The research results show as below,(a) Throughout the history of twentieth century which can be divided into three parts:The world war period, cold war period and post-cold war time. The status of sport politicization has changed with the time going. What politics needs for sport changes with the development of society:(ⅰ), sport has been used as gaining national prestige and representing politics will by states before cold war;(ⅱ), sport was as a way to compete ideological victory for different sides beyond the curtain during cold war;(ⅲ) the whole society turned to pursue a more peaceful world in the post-cold war time. Instead of its political use, sport becomes as a resource of social hope and power to appeal for a peaceful world.(b) The sport politicization mainly expressed as that sport can help on obtaining national prestige and national identity and sometimes it can also present national politics will when other political measures don’t work. It is important for us to notice that the performance of sport politicization in twentieth tended to have things to do with nationalism racialism, foreign diplomacy and so on.
