Mergers and acquisitions (M&As) are increasingly being used by Chinese local firmsto strengthen and maintain their position in the market place. Chinese local firm’s M&Asare seen by many as a relatively fast and efficient way to expand into new markets and newtechnologies. Yet their success is by no means assured. To the contrary, a majority fall shortof their stated goals and objectives. While some failures have been dug out and explainedby financial and market factors, a substantial number can be traced to neglected humanresource integration issues and activities. Numerous studies confirm the need for firms tosystematically address a variety of human resource integration issues and activities in theirM&As activities.Although human resource integration can play a value-adding role in the M&Asprocess, existing research and evidence does not clearly demonstrate how it can do so. Thispaper addresses the neglected human side of M&As by providing a strategic fit frameworkto assess the link between M&As strategy and human resource integration strategy.This paper proposes a three-stage model of mergers and acquisitions thatsystematically identifies several M&As human resource integration issues and activities.HT group’s M&As human resources integration practice is offered to illustrate the issuesand activities in each of the three stages. The article concludes with a description of the roleand importance of the M&As human resource integration.The research on the integration of human resource during M&As can improve thechances to succeed, and it can help to find out the way to lower the cost of M&As as well.Meanwhile, the research on human resource integration during M&As can afford aconsultative form for the later M&As.The economy’s development worldwide must bring large-scale M&As, the greatmajority enterprise will experience M&As or not in its developing process, but the failurerate of M&As in practice loses the courage. Particularly, the human resource integrationafter the M&A becomes the key factor that decides its success. This paper passes to the domestic research in the weak realm—the research on human resource integration duringM&As, expects to provide s kind of consultant for the M&Asing enterprises and those wantto M&As.
