Since the1990s, Japan’s economy has entered the longest period of industrialrestructuring after the WWII. This paper reviews international studies on theadjustment, evolvement, and characteristics of Japan’s industry, analyzing theinternational financial and debt crisis. On such a basis, the paper focuses its studies onthe characteristics of Japan’s industrial restructuring, the target of current thesis, in thewake of the crisis. By analyzing the impacts of the two crises on industrialdevelopment strategy, global industrial division, and industrial restructuring of Japan,the paper aims to evaluate the measures taken by Japan and to forecast Japan’sindustry in terms of its restructuring directions and policies. In so doing, the paperdraws following conclusions:First, in terms of industrial strategic development, Japan centers on thedevelopment of new technology in many fields, including green energy, electronicinformation, medic-biology, aero-space, high-tech, and tourism and culture after theemergence of financial crisis. Energy industry, which is mainly applied to greenvehicle and solar power, has reached the greatest achievements; electronicinformation is expected to become the global pioneering industry.Secondly, in terms of industry transfer, it will be further expanded and elevated.The transfer of the enterprises, both big and small, will be driven by many powers.Industrialization of service will gather more momentum in domestic Japan.Third, in terms of industrial recycling, Japan has completed its recyclingeconomic system by developing green industry, dissolution industry, andenergy-saving industry. The enterprises in Japan have established a modal of globalrecycling economy featuring “talents-resources-funds-market” with an effort ofpromoting sustainable development.Fourth, in terms of industrial policy, Japan employs industrial, fiscal, trade andfinancial policy to guide the industrial restructuring, which on the one hand stimulatesthe economic recovery, and on the other hand lays a foundation for industrial divisionand strategic development.
