Taking a wide view on the present situation of our land resources, we should consider the points as follows:on the one hand the demand for land resources in urban construction is getting more and more intense, urban construction meets the land bottleneck; on the other hand the use of rural land resources is extensive and inefficient. Searching how to improve the efficiency of land use in rural areas and take the road of sustainable development of land resources has become an inevitable choice to solve this contradiction. In view of this, this paper takes the homestead exchange project of Wuhan as an example for an empirical study. Firstly, the paper defines some related concepts of homestead exchange, and analyzes the necessity of homestead exchange. Secondly, the paper deeply analyzes the background, status and characteristics of the study area of Wuhan, and in order to understand the feasibility the paper estimates the potential of homestead exchange in Wuhan. Finally, considering the three factors of the social, economic and environmental benefits, the paper builds an index system of benefit evaluation of homestead exchange and also makes the evaluation of the effect of homestead exchange in Wuhan by projection pursuit classification evaluation model which is based on differential evolution, and according to the result of evaluation, the paper points out the problems and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. From empirical perspective, the paper utilizes projection pursuit classification evaluation method based on differential evolution which is the novelty of the paper, to do research on homestead exchange. Furthermore, to some extent, the paper’s result has reference value to further development of homestead exchange project in Wuhan.
