Managers, as the backbone of enterprises, have the most significant impact on thebusiness performance and development of enterprises. So how to evaluate the careersuccess of managers and how to guide the career development of managers objectivelywill influence the establishment of the managers’ growth mechanism. Work values, asthe inner need and job quality or attribute when people engaged in job, will affectpeoples’ choices, behavior and so on, so it will have certain effect on personal careersuccess eventually. Besides, as one of the important factors which affect performance, practical intelligence has attracted lots of attention of scholars, but researches on thetacit knowledge are relatively rare, and most scholars study tacit knowledge throughpractical intelligence, so this paper intend to study the practical intelligence from itscore meaning——the ability to solve practical problems.Based on literature analysis about related variables, we come up with “values-tacitknowledge-performance” logic in this paper, and focus on studying the relationshipsamong them. As for the measurement of work values and career success, we apply oneexisting questionnaire, and we develop practical intelligence questionnaire. Data of100small samples was statistically analyzed, data of238large samples was statisticallyanalyzed by SPSS15.0and LISREL8.7. We find that the model of managers’ practicalintelligence has five dimensions: self-management ability, the ability to command job, interpersonal skills, innovation ability and the ability to make strategic decision. Wealso verify the model of work values includes comfort and security, competence andgrowth, status and independence. The model of career success includes competition inthe organization, competition out of the organization, job satisfaction and perceivedcareer success. We also find that work values have a significant positive effect onpractical intelligence and career success, at the same time, practical intelligence has asignificant positive effect on career success. Furthermore, practical intelligence plays arole as a partial mediator between work values and career success. The results showsthat managers’ practical intelligence has significant differences in age, length of serviceand position levels, but there is no significant difference in education backgrounds andgender. Finally, we have a conclusion about this paper, and point out its deficiencies.
