City’s agglomeration and economy of scale effects greatly improve economicefficiency, and promote urban economic development. Therefore, urban developmenthas been the main focus of social study. With the fast social and economicdevelopment, and the rapid trend of urbanization, urban development and constructionhas developed into a new stage. Particularly, under the new circumstances, such aschanges of global economic situation, China’s great national income development,together with the pressure of economic prospect, it is extremely important for us toconduct research on the issues of urban scientific development.Urban competitiveness is the ability to attract factors, utilize environment,develop industry, produce products, provide service, capture the market, and createthe largest fortunes in a fast, effective manner and supply welfare to citizens in theprocess of competition, cooperation and development in the comparison with othercities. Urban competitiveness is a compound index, including factors of economy,society, culture, government management and institutions, which providecomprehensive reflection of cities. Among each factor, there are both differentiationsand cooperation. Therefore, it is necessary to do scientific, objective, empirical anddynamic research on the factors that affect urban competitiveness, conclude itscharacteristics, and provide references for cites to improve their sustainable urbancompetitiveness more effectively.According to the indicator systems, this article uses12first class indexes todescribe the factors that affect urban competitiveness, such as economy, talent, culture,capital, technology, infrastructure, etc. It takes54sample cities, uses the standardizedurban competitiveness data between2002-2011, deploys the methods of Fuzzy Curve,then calculate the contribution of these factors and the correlativity among them. Thisarticle reaches the conclusion that, over the10years, urban competitiveness factorshas been changing from hard power to soft conditions, of which talent, governmentmanagement, capital, technology and infrastructure remains the main driver of urbancomprehensive competitiveness, becoming the main target of improving urbancompetitiveness for each city. In the end, it gives policy suggestions on furtherimproving urban competitiveness and the urban sustainable development.
