From1949to1997before the Asian financial crisis of nearly50years, Japan’sAsian economic strategy experienced three big changes.1949-1970is Japan’s “Compensation diplomatic” strategy phase. After WorldWar II, Japan lost in the overseas markets. In order to restore the Japan’s economyand return to the Southeast Asian market, Japanese got many supports from theUnited States, and implemented the “Compensation diplomacy” strategy to theSoutheast Asian. With the diplomacy’s implement, Japan and Indonesia’s economicrelations was gradually restored. From1970to1985, Japan’s Asian economic strategychanged from the “Compensation diplomacy” to the “Pacific Economic CooperationIdea”. Along With the announcement of the “Nixon Doctrine” and the U.S.’s militaryforces withdrawal from Asia, Japan assessed the situation and timely adjusted theAsian economic strategy, from the single and weak dominant “Compensationdiplomacy "strategy to the diversify, dominated “Pacific economic CooperationIdea”. Under the influence of this strategy, the economic relations between Japan andIndonesia changed from mutual suspiciousness the of “Compensation diplomacy” tothe soul mate partnership, and strengthened the economic relationship between Japanand Indonesia. From1985to1997, Japan’s Asian economic strategy evolved into the“Flying Geese Strategy”. With the introduction and implementation of the “FlyingGeese Strategy”, Japan had became a microcosm of a world economic power, andexpected to become the world’s political power, but also to competed with Europeand the United States regional economic group, and hoped to get the sameinternational status.Japan’s postwar economic strategy in Asia was such an evolving process, whichhad many factors: the changing world political and economic patterns; The evolutionrole and influence of United States in the of Japan’s Asian economic; The Asian hugeattractiveness. Similarly, these factors also affected all the countries in the Asia.Under the influence of Japan’s Asia economic strategy, Indonesia was alsoexperiencing a big change.
