Chengjiang Fauna National Geopark Tourism Development

Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park, located in Chengjiang county of Yunnan province of China, is named after the Cambrian fauna fossil which dated from530million years ago and was discovered in1984. A large variety and number of Chengjiang Fauna Fossil and lots of preserved soft-bodied fossils of the early Earth, show a complete picture of the creatures living530million years ago, and is regarded as the best physical certificate of the "Cambrian explosion". The36th World Heritage Conference was held in St. Petersburg of Russian on July1,2012, and Chengjiang Fossil Site was listed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List as an outstanding example reflecting the main phase of the Earth evolution history. Chengjiang Fossil Site becomes the43rd world heritage and fills in the blank of the world natural heritage of Chinese fossil.Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park is of excellent geological resources and location, based on so the most sensible choice to achieve its sustainable development is to develop the tourism relying on the world natural heritage. Tourism development can not only enhance the protection of Chengjiang Fauna Fossil, but also promote the regional economic development and upgrade the social industrial structure. However, as the result of the current development status that the tourism development is at the initial stage, the development speed is slow, and the tourism revenue and tourist arrivals are insufficient. In order to achieve the organic unification of ecological, social and economic benefits, the writer makes suggestions for the further development of Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park through several times of field investigations, learning the successful tourism development experience of domestic and foreign geological parks and world heritage sites, and analyzing the background, current situation and problems of Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park tourism development.The thesis is composed of seven parts. Chapter one introduces this paper’s background, significance and purpose, and explains the research methods and technology roadmap; chapter two defines the basic concepts of geological sites, geological parks and world natural heritage, and summarizes the studies of domestic and international geological parks and world heritage tourism; in terms of positional, natural and economic conditions, chapter three details the background and history of Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park tourism development; chapter four details the types and features of Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park tourism resources and apply the qualitative assessment method "Six words, Seven principles" to systematically assess the tourism resources and surroundings; chapter five explains the current situation of Chengjiang Fauna National Geological Park tourism development, and mainly discusses the problems of the tourism development and analyses the current situation of the tourism development by SWOT; chapter six, the innovation part, points out that the tourism development should follow the government-oriented principles and sustainable development way, and makes suggestions on how to improve the tourism management system, how to deal with the relations between protection and development, and how to develop and design tourism products and explore the tourism market; chapter seven sums up the whole paper.
