China is the world’s largest cotton producer, consumer and importer, cotton has the important status in the national economy of china. In2010China’s total textile and apparel exports of$206,539,000,000, the textile industry has play a decisive role in the development of Chinese economy, the cotton textile industry is one of the largest, most exports competitive advantage pillar industry. Cotton as the agricultural resources of important plays an irreplaceable role in the national economy. But in our country, the limited resources of the situation of cotton supply can not rapidly improve. Accession to the WTO after China’s cotton imports grew more intense, in2003to become the world’s largest cotton importer, in2009due to financial crisis, China has imported more than2000000tons of cotton. Therefore, research on China’s cotton imports, is conducive to the protection of health, sustainable development of cotton industry in china.Through the research, in-depth analysis of characteristics of cotton import trade trends as the starting point, with the factors influencing cotton import trade as the breakthrough point, using econometric models and methods to analyze relevant data after China joined WTO2001-2010ten years Chinese imports of cotton, cotton import trade of China the rules, and the future of Chinese cotton industry safety, dependence, import substitution of analysis and evaluation, puts forward relevant policy suggestions.The main content of this study include:first, to the characteristics of cotton import trade analysis as a starting point, expounds the history and present situation of Chinese cotton import trade; secondly, the influencing factors of cotton import trade as the breakthrough point, based on qualitative analysis factor analysis of China’s cotton imports effects using the gravity model quantitative; again is the import demand model to establish difference the sensitive degree of China’s market preference on the main source of imports and domestic cotton and price; then establishes the evaluation system of the cotton industry safety in China, analysis of the impact of imports on the main problems existing in China, summarizes the cotton import trade, such as import source of excessive concentration, high dependence on foreign trade, the lack of international market discourse right; finally proposed measures and suggestions.Conclusion:our country cotton import trade has characteristics of imported large amount, quantity, low prices, large fluctuations, imported cotton competitiveness is generally higher than domestic cotton, the source of the relative concentration; and this trend in the next period will continue. Factors affecting the import of cotton in China mainly include:the demand factors, supply factors, policy factors, price factors, source of imports factors. Through the analysis of quantitative model can be obtained, improve people’s life level in our country leads to increased demand for cotton and international cotton prices below domestic cotton prices is to promote the main reason to import large quantities of cotton in china. Through the analysis we can find that Chinese cotton trade exists of domestic cotton preference weak, lack of pricing power, the main national dependence strengthen, source between alternative is not strong, industry safety situation deteriorating trends and other issues, is not conducive to the healthy and sustainable development of the cotton industry. China needs to increase domestic supply capacity, striving for the national cotton trading pricing power, further realize the import diversification, get rid of excessive dependence of foreign domestic industry, improve the construction of security system.
