Since1978, tremendous achievements have been made in socialist modernization under the driving of the investment, consumption and export, like the rapid growth of the economy, raising incomes, the improving of living standards, the second position of the economic aggregate in the word and building a well-fruitful. In order to maintain the sustained, rapid, stable and healthy economic growth and stimulate the domestic demand, we must expand consumption due to the deteriorations of the international economic situation and the relative lack of external demand in recent years. There is a large rural population in China and its potential of market consumption is immense. But compares with the increasing urban consumption, the rural is slower. Hu Jintao stressed that raising the rural consumption must be regarded as the key task in the next five years at Boao Forum for Asia in2011. Consequently, the correct and scientific evaluation of rural consumption, and find out the restricting factors of rural consumption and the adaptive strategies and effective measures to expand the rural consumption, are very important practical significance for solving the "three rural" problem and achieving the new round of economic take-off.The research objective of this dissertation is profound analyzing the status and trends of rural consumption, by reading related information and documentation, and using Materialist dialectics, normative analysis, empirical analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis and other methods. The content of this dissertation is divided into three parts:Part one, Chapter one and two included, the background and significance of rural consumption research, research ideas and research methods are described, at the same time, the current research on consumption issues that the domestic and foreign experts and scholars have concerned are also analyzed in this part. In Part two, Chapter three and four and five included, firstly, in Chapter three, after specific description and detailed analysis to the current rural consumption in China, it can be concluded that the lack of consumer demand in rural areas exerts effects on the developments of national economy and the level of rural consumption. Then in Chapter four, main factors, which produce effects on rural consumption and also restrict it, can be concluded from the current rural consumption, such as rural income, commodity structure, public services and the environment and attitudes of consumption. In Chapter five, the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are proposed to improve the level of rural consumption based on the main factors were proposed in Chapter four, like increasing the rural income, strengthening the construction of infrastructure and urbanization, improving the social security system and consumption structure in rural areas, maintaining the market order areas and establishing the multiple investment and fund-raising system in rural areas. In Part three, it is the conclusions of the whole dissertation. In this part, the necessity and urgency of the level of rural consumption are emphasized. At the same time, the further research directions are also suggested.
