In the last ten years, China’s imports of high-tech products grew very rapidly, which also helped to enhance its status in China’s import trade. Import of high-techproducts play an important role in China’s import trade, and China is in its period oftransforming the economic growth mode and upgrading the industrial structure. As aresult, improving the protection of intellectual property rights, expanding the importof high-tech products, and increasing the proportion of high-tech imported goods, aresignificant to the economic and social development of China. In this thesis, import data of high-tech products in provincial regions of Chinabetween2000to2009are used as samples, to analyze the influence of the protectionof intellectual rights to China’s import trade of high-tech products. Generally speaking, the empirical results show that that influence mainly causes a Market ExpansionEffect, which is not obvious in statistics. Further study shows that that influence existsapparent space differences, which depends on the imitative ability and imitate threatof various regions. Specifically, in the eastern China, the areas with stronger imitativeability and imitate threat are mainly of Market Expansion Effect; while in the incentral and western China, the areas with weaker ones are primarily of Market PowerEffect. Finally, aiming at the relation between intellectual property rights protection andhigh-tech product imports, some measures are put forward, of enhancing thecomprehensive skills of workers, importing similar products, and strengthening thegovernment’s policy support system. These measures are taken from multipledimensions and different areas, eventually transform China’s economic growth modeand upgrade the industrial structure of China, through the import of high-techproducts.
