1960s, Western countries rise up the systematic study of corporate socialresponsibility,and in the1980s formed research boom in the world. In the1990s, theproblem of corporate social responsibility gets more attention of our country academiccircles,and also the government and the business circles pay more attention to it gradually.Small and medium-sized enterprises in China has an important significance to ease theemployment pressure, achieve social stability and progress, stimulating economic growth,which can not be ignored in a position in China’s economic development. In order topromote the healthy growth of SMEs, to understand the impact of social enterprises to takeresponsibility for the growth of enterprises is particularly important.. Whether there is acertain relationship between the SMEs corporate social responsibility and its own growth,isnot only the effective basis of SMEs themselves assume the social responsibilityconsciously and legitimately and government departments and the society guide SMEsassuming the social responsibility scientifically and legitimately,but also the basis ofensuring the healthy development of SMEs,and becoming the high quality enterprise.Firstly, this article states corporate social responsibility concept, stakeholder theory andcorporate growth theory, and then based on stakeholder theory analyzes the impact ofcorporates assuming the responsibility for shareholders, creditors, suppliers, consumers,employees, governments and the public welfare to the growth of the enterprises. After thetheoretical analysis, this article designs evaluation index systems of corporate socialresponsibility and corporate growth potential,and sets up the empirical model by theenterprise growth comprehensive index which is builded by the factor analysis method asthe dependent variable, the index system of corporate social responsibility as anindependent variable, firm size as control variables.It selects the financial datas in2010-2012of Gem listed SMEs in our country as the research sample, researches therelationship of the social responsibility and growth of SMEs by correlation analysis methodand regression analysis method.Through the empirical study, this paper draw the following conclusions: From thepoint of view of stakeholders, SMEs bear the social responsibility of shareholders, creditorsand suppliers have significant positive influence to the enterprise growth.But SMEs bearthe social responsibility of consumer and public welfare have significant negative influence to the enterprise growth.It is because excessive commitment to the social responsibility ofconsumer and public welfare will lead to increase the business spending,and theperformance to financial data is will lower corporate profits. In the short term,it is notconducive to enterprise growth.There is no significant correlation between SMEs bearingthe social responsibility for the employees, government and enterprise growth.Finally,this article gives some advices about how to promote SMEs to undertakingsocial responsibility from the perspective of government, social perspective and theperspective of small and medium-sized enterprise themselves.
