Nowadays China has entered the crucial stage in constructing an innovative country.Industry-university-institute cooperation is market-oriented, takes enterprises as themainstay, and has become the key to the construction of national innovation system, which can rapidly improve the overall performance of innovation systems in our country.Industry-university-institute cooperation is considered as the most successful mechanismof knowledge transfer, which can be utilized in the innovation system for effectiveimprovement of the independent innovation capability of enterprises. In recent researchresults of knowledge transfer in industry-university-institute cooperation, the influencingfactors are mostly investigated. However, the entrepreneur is also a key factor, which hasa great theoretical as well as great realistic significance. The literature research method is used in this paper for capturing the state-of-the-arttheoretical research. Based on analyzing the innovation theory, knowledge transfer theory, leadership theory and entrepreneurship theory, the industry-university-institutecooperation can be divided into three stages, including the stage of choosing patterns, thestage of cooperative research and the stage of cooperation achievements transformation.Furthermore, we construct a mechanism model, verify it through case studies, andeventually put forward the hypothesis of the research. The questionnaire survey methodsis organized for data collection. The partial least squares path analysis method based onthe SmartPLS2.0software is developed for the data analysis.Through the theoretical and empirical analysis, we find that the entrepreneurialcompetence influences both the process and result of the knowledge transfer significantlyand positively in the industry-university-institute innovation system. The resourcesallocation ability, opportunity decision-making ability, innovation ability, buildingrelationship ability, and learning ability of entrepreneur exerts a strong positive influenceon the knowledge transfer, while the strategic management ability and risk taking abilityhas no immediate influence on the knowledge transfer. The strategic management abilityand risk taking ability has no immediate impact on the knowledge transfer. Theknowledge transfer in industry-university-institute innovation system is impacted byabilities of entrepreneur in different extent, and the order of these abilities with different influence levels is building relationship ability, resources allocation ability, innovationability, learning ability and opportunity decision-making ability, from high level to lowlevel.
