In recent years, with the rapidly increase of the grain using by bio-energy,pharmaceutical, financial speculation, urbanization and population growth, a lot offarmland disappear each year in the world, and international food price continue to rise.Faced with increasingly higher food price and lucrative grain trade, more and morecountries begin to carry out overseas farmland investments activities. At the same time,overseas farmland investments caused a lot of controversy because of its industrycharacteristics. Some people think that overseas farmland investments is more good thanharm, it can increase global food production, lead the international grain market moreactive and can achieve a win-win situation for the world’s arable land efficient utilization.However, opponents think that overseas farmland investments is a new round of land graband colonialism, not only couldn’t improve the living conditions of the local people, butmakes the poor countries more nervous, and even inspire social conflict.This paper systematically combing from the early overseas farmland investments andcontemporary overseas farmland investments, the early overseas farmland investmentsmainly involved in colonial expansion, while the contemporary overseas farmlandinvestments mainly involved in overseas land investments which is very popular in recentyears, combing history by typical events of typical countries, and then sort out therelations and differences between overseas farmland investments and colonial, andproviding advice to the implementation of overseas farmland investments.
