In recent years, food safety incidents have happened very often, of which somecaused illness and even deaths, thus affecting the development of the food industry andrelated industries. Nowadays, a large number of food safety incidents surged, making foodsafety not only an economic problem but also social and political issues. And researchersalways focus on the macro-control and the analysis of its overall impact, ignoring itsmicro structure and feature elaboration. Therefore, how to identify, prevent and governfood safety issues becomes a major problem. The factors causing food safety incidents vary and there’re few academic researcheson the relationship between features and the nature of the incidents. With the aim ofresearching on food safety incidents, here used the research approach of featurerecognition and analyzed the interest net of food safety incidents. After three features—thefood, production environment and governance status—have been used as dimensions offeature extraction, and thereafter these features have been further analyzed,15featureindicators of food safety have been set as well. By applying these feature indicators, finally build the case database of food safety incidents.According to the case database of food safety incidents, frequency analysis andLogistic analyzing methods, the common features of food safety incidents are known as:almost in the same category, the same part but with various governors. And these arekernel aspects in recognizing food safety incidents: economic impacts, health impacts, geographic features, victims’ age, victims’ economy, public attention, media attention, difficulties in monitoring and difficulties and duration in governing. In the4categories offood safety incidents–special serious, serious, major and common, the kernel aspectsvary which thereafter helped tell the4categories and the relationship with each other.Different kernel aspects indicated different categories of incidents and differentgovernance approaches as well: First, insist on local governing. The local governancedepartment should make full use of the abundant sources of information to help governfood safety incidents, the central government also should regulate these local governancedepartments and help to solve invalid governance approaches. Second, build an authorized food safety governing department both in the central and local. Third, construct acomplete system, set up effective standards and focus on the incidents in the rural area, wishing to eventually eliminate food safety incidents.
