Research Of The Suburb Urbanization Of Jiaxing City

The urbanization of China has been developing rapidly since the reform and opening uppolicy was adopted in1978. The urbanization in the east and the west vary greatly from each other,with the rapid development in eastern coastal areas built on the basis of large-scale population flowfrom one region to another. As one of the important cities in the Yangtze River Delta, Jiaxing hasalso attracted a large number of foreign population. In recent years, however, the eastern coastalareas have entered a new stage of transformation and upgrading, with its population, industrygaining the trend of moving to central and west areas. The traditional urbanization mode of Jiaxing,which was promoted by floating of foreign population, is not sustainable under this new socialcontext. In the rapid development of urbanization, suburb area was in disadvantaged positioncompared to the central city and the backwardness of the suburb urbanization has seriouslyaffected the healthy development of urbanization in the whole city. Therefore, the suburburbanization has become the focus study of Jiaxing urbanization in the new era.This study covers the changes of population and the enhancement of urbanization level from2000to2010of the whole country, Zhejiang Province and Jiaxing respectively through statisticalanalysis of census data. It points out that Jiaxing’s urbanization enjoys a rapid developing speedbut still a low level when viewed wholly, compared to that of other cities in the region. By thecomparison of the suburb and the central city, the study indicate that the distribution of the currentpopulation and the additional population was gathering to the central city, and suburb areas were ina serious backward position in many aspects, such as industrial level, infrastructure, public services,etc.In order to find out the migrate intentions of suburban residents, a survey about theirurbanization wishes is designed and carried out in this study. The survey shows that towns are themost desired region where both local residents and foreign residents want to move to, showing thattowns enjoy the potential to become a key development area in the future urbanization.Based on the results of the survey conducted among suburban residents, three scenarios aboutmigrate of labor-intensive industries are built, which put job factor, suburban resident cared, as avariable of scenario analysis mode. By analyzing and comparing the pros and cons of each scenario,we can draw up to a recommended scenario, which suggest that the current policies lead the labor- intensive industries to relocate in the industrial park and the long-term policies lead them to moveto the central and western regions is in line with and to the interest of the prospect of Jiaxing’surbanization.Jiaxing is blessed with favorable natural environment and a harmonious relationship betweenurban and rural areas, one of whose main tasks is to achieve a smooth transition under the newsocial background. The key for its urbanization is to follow a healthy, sustainable, environment-friendly new way of development, achieving the harmony between rural and urban areas.
