Empirical Research On The Efficiency And Its Influencing Factors In Xi'an Logistics

As an accelerator and the third profit springs of the modern economy, the logistics industry has become a basic industry of a country or a region’s economic development. The development level of the logistics industry is reflected in the logistics efficiency. Further, there are many factors affect the logistics efficiency, and the impact of each factor on the efficiency of logistics is not the same. Thus, it’s significant to study logistics efficiency and its influencing factors. Viewing from the theory to empirical, there is still relatively little research on systematic analysis of logistics efficiency, especially lack of an analysis of Xi’an logistics efficiency and its influencing factors. So we take it as this paper’s task.The full text can be divided into five parts besides the introduction. The first part (the second chapter) is related to the basics of the theories. Based on the accurate definition the concept of logistics, logistics industry and logistics efficiency, this paper make a deep analysis of five important factors affecting the efficiency of logistics. The second part (the third chapter) is related to the evaluation of Xi’an logistics efficiency. First, propose several methods to evaluate logistics efficiency, and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each method, we choose the data envelopment analysis (DEA) as the final evaluation method in this paper. Second, this paper will combine with the logistics industry’s current situation in Xi’an, choose the appropriate index system and build the DEA model (CCR model and BCC model). Based on this, we evaluate the Xi’an logistics efficiency which includes the overall efficiency, pure technical efficiency and technical efficiency from2000to2011by the DEAP2.0soft. Finally, we conclude that there exist seven years (2000,2001,2004,2005,2007,2008.2011) which Xi’an logistics efficiency has reach a level of DEA efficient, and then analyze the result of invalidation. The third part (the fourth chapter) is related to the empirical analysis of the influencing factors of Xi’an logistics efficiency. First, we introduce the theory and application of Tobin regression model. Then we use different indicators to measure several important factors affecting logistics efficiency, and we will establish Tobin regression model to analyze the correlation between each factor and logistics efficiency by the Eviews5.0soft. Finally, we find the ranking of factors which deeply affect the logistics efficiency is:location factors, the logistics resource utilization, the degree of market, the level of economic development and logistics professionals. The fourth part (the fifth chapter) is related to suggestions. According to the situation of logistics industry in Xi’an and the empirical result, we give the following suggestions:(1) make the advance of pure technical efficiency as the point, and continuously improve the logistics resource utilization;(2) continue to make use of the geographical advantages of Xi’an, and promote the development of logistics industry;(3) firmly and unswervingly deepen each reform, and promote the market degree of Xi’an;(4) speed up the process of international metropolis in Xi’an, and enhance the level of economic development;(5) do a good job on the training of logistics professionals. The fifth part (the sixth chapter) is related to the conclusion and the prospect. First, review and summarize the ideas of this paper. Second, prospect more suggestions on this paper.Main innovation of this paper include:(1) Theoretical innovation. The previous literature on the study of logistics efficiency doesn’t define the concept of logistics and logistics efficiency. Based on this, this paper gives the definition of related concepts, and analyzes the factors of influencing logistics efficiency.(2) Method innovation. This paper makes use of two models. On the one hand, we build DEA model and evaluate the logistics efficiency of Xi’an from2000to2011. On the other hand, we build Tobin regression model and evaluate the correlation between each factor and logistics efficiency.(3) At present, there is no scholars who do empirical research on the logistics efficiency of Xi’an city. However, Xi’an city has a favorable environment for the development of logistics industry. So, to research the logistics efficiency of Xi’an, will improve the efficiency of Xi’an, and promote the rapid of logistics industry.
