Study On The Advantages Of The Science And Technology Development From The Needham Problem

"Needham Problem" is not only one of the hot research fields of history of science andtechnology in China, but also as an important issue in the world history of science exists in theacademia forever. About this problem that must be mentioned during the study of the History ofScience and Technology, Western and eastern scholars have multi-angle answers, but so far none hasunanimously been accepted.During18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party stressed that:"scientific and technological innovation is the strategic support to improve the social productiveforces and overall national strength and they must be placed in the heart of the global nationaldevelopment." This fully shows the great importance of the technological development andinnovation.In the above context, Needham and "Needham Problem" are basically introduced, and thepurpose and significance of the Needham problem research are proposed. Through researchingsystematically the Needham Problem in terms of geography and population, economy, education,institution, scientific thinking, this paper extracts the five advantages’ for scientific andtechnological progress:(1) The open and competitive environment;(2) The highly practical and efficient economy;(3) The open and inspired education;(4) The democratic and scientific national policy;(5) The logic and holistic scientific thinking.Then according to the above six advantages, on the base of the current scientific andtechnological development in China, what China is lack of becomes clear. Then measures areproposed to improve the inadequacies.
