Born after1980s,the new generation employees have become main labor force inworkplace. Having experienced marketilization, globalization, and spread ofinformation technology, they demonstrate unique personality and demand. Comparedwith older employees, new generation employees hold stronger participation intentionand demand. However, most enterprises are not able to deal with this trend thatparticipation intention and demand cannot be met. And this in turn triggers a series oflabor conlficts, such as the strike in Nanhai Honda and disputes in BYD. These eventsreflect the low job satisfaction of new generation employees that results fromproblematic management system, and particularly the lack of employee participation. As a mechanism of protecting rights, sharing experience and interesting as well asinteraction with others, employee participation plays an important role in maintainingequity in workplace, easing labor conflicts and promoting employee satisfaction. Theresearches on the relationship of employee participation and employee satisfactionhave made a progress, but the question that how does employee participation affectemployees’ satisfaction has not answered. Making new generation employees asresearch object, this study discusses the influence of employee participationmechanism on employee satisfaction, in order to enrich the theory of employeeparticipate, and improve the new generation employees management.By interviewing the HR department managers, trade union members and somenew generation employees, I study the management systems and employeeparticipation. Using random sampling methods, a sample of703new generationemployees was collected from nine vehicle assembly plants in Changsha, Shenzhen,Wuhan, Yantai and Zhuzhou. Most questionairs are finished by using off-site surveymethodology, and a small part of questionairs were sent through HR department.Confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, one-way ANOVA,regressionanalysis were used to analyze data. The results show that: New generation employeeshave a high participation intention while the reality is not satisfactory; Somedemographic characteristics affect employee participation, participation intention andsatisfaction; The participation of new generation employees has significantly positiveimpact on satisfaction, the influence degree of participation in management, supervising, decision-making reduces gradually; Participation intention of new generation employees plays a moderating role between employee participation andsatisfaction, the mechanism degree of intention of participation in management,decision-making,supervising reduces gradually. These findings suggest that enterprises should pay attention to employeeparticipation system, particularly high levels of employee participation in supervisingand decision-making. And it is needed to cultivate employees’ participation intentionto raise the new generation emplo’yee satisfaction.
