Since the opening up of China, the national economy of Sichuan Province has been growing fast. However, high-speed economy growth is accompanied with high energy consumption and low efficiency. At present, the energy-saving ideas have been paid more and more attention, and the quality of economic growth has become an important index of national economic growth. To promote the coordinated development of energy consumption and economic growth, has a very realistic significance. To grasp the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth, it is necessary to study the energy consumption growth rate, energy storage and consumption structure, energy consumption intensity, elasticity coefficient of energy consumption and the mode of economic growth. At present, how to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP to realize the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" target, has become an important and valuable subject. However, throughout the studies of domestic and foreign scholars on the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth, we found that different selections of methods, regions, time spans of the data, intervals of data selection would all make the results differ in thousands. Research of Specific area, is completely different from of others. Although researches of the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in China are very rich, in-depth research of the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Sichuan Province, are relatively rare. In theory, study on relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Sichuan Province, is a kind of regional issue that is more systematic, in-depth, and detailed exploration; in practice, through the study we may find the inner link between economic growth and energy consumption, and guide the direction of economic strategies.Specifically, the researching approaches are as followed:Firstly, in the second chapter, I introduced some theories that will be used in the next. What included in are the growth of the national economy, definition of the mode of economic growth, definition of energy and energy consumption, definition and calculation of intensity of energy consumption and elasticity coefficient of energy consumption. In this part, through the introduction of these theories, I had paved the way for the following study. At the same time, in accordance with current China Statistical Yearbook and energy statistical yearbook, I divided energy structure into coal, oil, natural gas and hydropower these four categories, and then made researches according to the classification of the structure. And in the third chapter, through some descriptive statistical analysis of Sichuan Province’s economic growth and energy consumption, this paper pointed out and explained the current situation of economic growth and energy consumption in Sichuan Province. Through the analysis I found that, the economic growth of Sichuan Province is very fast, the structure of energy consumption is becoming more and more rational, the energy consumption intensity per unit GDP energy consumption decreased year by year, the economic growth rate is greater than the energy consumption growth rate and elasticity coefficient of energy consumption is low and the quality of economic growth is improving. However, various problems are existed. For example, the industrial structure of Sichuan Province is not reasonable, the structure of energy consumption are not coordinated with the energy storage structure, and the level of energy consumption per unit GDP is still high.In the fourth chapter, I selected some data of GDP and energy consumption of1978to2011in Sichuan Province to take quantitative analysis. As a result, long-run equilibrium relationship exist between GDP and total energy consumption, coal consumption, oil consumption, gas consumption and electricity consumption. Further Granger causality test found that GDP is a Granger reason of the energy consumption. This indicates that GDP growth will increase energy consumption but increasing energy consumption does not lead to economic growth. This paper further established five error correction models and found the long-term equilibrium relationships and the short-term adjustment path between them. Finally, according to the analysis of this article, I put forward some corresponding suggestions:saving resources, improving the efficiency of energy use; rational use of regional advantages to improve the proportion of clean energy; development of various types of energy to realize the diversification of energy consumption structure; increasing the proportion of the tertiary industry, and optimization of the industrial structure.Of course, this paper also has some shortcomings for it had not taken a research of the relationship between industrial structure and energy consumption, which would have a signally effect for the development strategies of Sichuan Province energy consumption and economic policies.
