| The tertiary industry also can be regarded as the service industry. Today, the serviceindustry has already become the pillar industry in most developed countries around the world.The developed countries’ economy is much stronger than developing countries due to theservice industry pushed developed countries’ economic development very much. The U.S.and China are two countries that have the most powerful economy in the world. But they havetotally different developmental pattern. The U.S. as the leader of the global economy, it hasthe advanced technology and developed service industry. China’s economy has experienced aperiod of rapid development since China’s government began to open and reform. Itseconomy improved a lot by its strong manufacturing industry. However, China’s fastdevelopment also exposed a series of problems such as environmental pollution, simpleindustry structure, low average personal income, and relies on export too much. All thesefactors restrict China’s future development. So, upgrading and optimizing China’s industrystructure is necessary. Although many scholars and politicians have mentioned that China’sindustry structure should be changed, the main industry of China is still the manufacturingindustry. This paper selects Chicago and Liaoning Province as the study areas because theyhave many similar situations. Chicago was a big manufacturing city in the U.S. It hasexperienced ups and downs of development and overcame many tough problems. Then, itachieved a successful change that transferred from a manufacturing city to an internationalmetropolis that includes diversified functions. Liaoning as one of the most important China’smanufacturing provinces, it should study the experience of Chicago, and using the inspirationfrom Chicago to change its own industry structure. In the future, the good combination ofmanufacturing industry and service industry should be the developmental pattern of LiaoningProvince. |
