| Since the world economic remains weak, the shipping industry is still suffering. In fact, the shipping market shot highly up to the top before2008with the roaring economic development of China. However, the potential problems exposed by the crisis alarmed people that shipping companies need to increase their operating efficiency except for just hoping for the appearance of market peak. The former studies concentrated more on the performance of the firm rather than on the efficiency, which can uncover the real earning ability of a firm better than the performance. Therefore, this paper mainly concerned on the measurement of efficiency for11listed shipping companies, and then we discussed the problems appeared in the study as well.The Malmquist index based on data envelopment analysis(DEA) can be used to measure the Total Factors Productive(TFP) dynamically. However, some problems exists in the traditional DEA-Malmquist such as lack of accuracy makes it inconvenient to use. So we in this paper introduced a cross-DEA based Malmquist index to measure the TFP of the sample firms. After that, we made a comparison between firms and then came up with some solutions to increase the efficiency. |
