The essence of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers now has become an important issue in China’s economic and social development and its core issue lies in increasing faemers’ income. Currently, the urban-rural income gap is widening and the living standards of farmers is very low, so striving to improve the income level of farmers will be directly related to the development and stability of our economy and society. Dingxi is in Gansu Province, located in the northwest underdeveloped regions, the economy is relatively backward and the income level of farmers is low, how to increase farmers’ income has aroused widespread public concern. The study on income and income structure of Dingxi rural households is conducive to grasp the practical situation in the region and introduce targeted policies to increase farmers’ income, thereby reduce the income disparity between urban and rural areas and regions.Therefore, this dissertation analyzed the income structure changes of rural households in Dingxi from2008-2012based on the data obtained from field research. First, the household business income is still the main source of farmers’household income, but its proportion declines; Second, the wage income’s proportion continues to rise and exceeding the household business income becomes the main source of local farmers’household income; third, property income and transfer income’s proportion is small, and the fluctuation is not very obvious. However, as an effective complement to the farmers’household income, they will become new ways to increase Dingxi farmers’ income.In addition, the dissertation comprehensively and thoroughly analyzed the causes of structural changes in farmers’household income from agricultural production, human capital, policies and systems as well as other factors, citing a variety of factors that affect farmers’ household income structure. And using weighted least squares (WLS) analyzed that how the average age, education level, household labor force, contracting arable land, arable units of chemical fertilizers, planting crops, and agricultural production tools influence the farmers’ income structure based on the survey data. Finally, according to the research conclusions above, proposed some targeted recommendations to increase farmers’income and optimize the structure of farmers’ household income in Dingxi.
