Li Da, as the greatest philosopher and economist of20th century in China, adopted a philosophical approach to study problems in economic field. He focused on the theme that the development of productive forces is the deciding force for social progress and explored laws of economics in accordance with the China’s economic reality, and thus creating a new chapter of the application of economic philosophy of Marxism in China.Economic philosophy in general is a discipline that philosophically reviews different kinds of economic phenomenon and economic thought. Li Da’s economic philosophy, however, is a broad economics with Historical Materialism as the foundation and the unity of opposites between productive forces and productive relations as the main part. The formation of Li Da’s economic philosophy is attributable to his experience of studying in Japan at an early age, study and research on Marxist Theory, in-depth revolutionary practices of the domestic working class and analysis of China’s industry situations. His economic philosophy mainly includes:understanding of the nature of Chinese society by analyzing China’s industry situations and general law of development of economic pattern and philosophical views from researches on Monetary Theory by analyzing social and economic structures.Li Da’s research on economics on the basis of Historical Materialism is an unprecedented fruit of the development of Marxist in modern China’s economic field and creates a new paradigm in China’s modern economic research. It provides an important inspiration for China’s economic and social development:innovation of economic theory cannot be made without the guidance of Historical Materialism; the reform of economic structure in a greater depth cannot be separated from China’s economic reality; and the deepening of reform of market economic structure should abide by the law of economic development.
