Highway traffic and economic system are two complex systems with interactive effects: the road transport system plays a vital role in economic development, meanwhile the level of socio-economic development also affects road transport system. Building "adaptive" traffic road traffic to ensure common development of the two systems and coordinate the two systems is an important condition for sustainable economic development.Currently, research on adaptive highway transportation and economic development has made some achievements with good reference significance, but the existing research results have room for improvement and continued research, either from the richness of adaptive connotation, or from the scientificity of quantitative scientific analysis model. Based on this, with highway transportation system and economic system as the main object of study, starting from the interaction between highway transportation and economic development, the paper analyzes the interaction mechanism between the two, defines the meaning of highway traffic and economic development adaptability from three aspects, and constructs evaluation and measurement models. The main contents of this paper include the following aspects:From a macro perspective, the paper defines the adaptability connotation highway traffic and economic development from many aspects. Traffic on the highway should keep pace with economic development, and as the economic development of service industry, road transport should be able to meet the needs of economic development in quantity. Meanwhile, road transport and economic development are constrained by resource environment; therefore, in order to adapt to economic development, we must be able to create the greatest economic benefit optimal resource utilization efficiency. Therefore, the paper establishes the adaptive meaning of economic development and traffic road from three perspectives. The paper analyzes the adaptability of highway traffic and economic development, using three indicators, namely the degree of building coordinated development, the degree of balance of the potential supply and demand, and the degree of sustainable development. Based on this, the paper elaborates the adaptive mechanism of highway transportation and economic development with the analysis of the interaction between road traffic and economic development, which is that adaptability is a state achieved during the process of the combined system of road traffic-the economic system being stimulated by external factors through his organization and self-organization. The paper builds adaptability from the degree of building coordinated development, the degree of balance of the potential supply and demand, and the degree of sustainable development to evaluate the model. It establishes a evaluation level of the comprehensive development of the two systems, and constructs the fitting coordinated development model based on entropy method. At the same time, it selects the degree of the balance of potential supply and demand and the degree of sustainable development as the evaluation standard, and introduces data envelopment analysis method according to the interaction between the highway transportation system and the economic system, establishing an evaluation model based on DEA method for the analysis of the degree of balance between the potential supply and demand. What is more, the paper treats road traffic as a production system having "input-output" process, and estimates the degree of sustainable development of the road transport using Malmquist productivity index. In summary, this paper analyzes adaptability theory of highway transportation and economic development in depth, establishing the idea to evaluate highway traffic and economic development adaptability. It establishes the evaluation indicators and assessment models in many aspects, and combines theory and practice, thus providing a theoretical reference for achieving sustainable development of road transport, which has practical significance.
